This beauty’s name is Anna. She is a 21 month old Great Pyrenees. Anna has a beautiful white coat that is medium to long in length. Her coat needs regular brushing. Even during shedding seasons, her coat is so light that it is very easy to clean up. She has big brown eyes with the most stunning eye lashes you have ever seen.
Anna came to us with a torn cruciate ligament in a rear leg and a partial tear in her other. We had the surgery done and she has recovered nicely from that. Her partial tear was examined by the specialist and it was determined surgery was not necessary for that one; the required crate rest needed for after surgery care was enough to let the other one heal on its own. It is months later and Anna is now doing well and is free from pain. Anyone considering her though needs to understand that large dogs like Anna are prone to cruciate tears so care needs to be taken not to let her run around like crazy and make quick turns.
Anna is a large breed dog that needs rooms to stretch out. She will require a home with space for a big, goofy dog and a large, securely fenced yard for outdoor time.
She does require regular activity however does not have the stamina to go for really long walks. Anna walks very well on a lead. She is a happy dog with an amazing temperament. She has a playful and loving personality. If unsure of something, Anna can be a little cautious but will trust and follow your lead. Anna is good with other dogs and plays well with all sizes and ages of dogs. Anna has a prey drive for small animals so would not be suitable for a home with cats or other small pets.
Anna can be very playful and will grab and carry things as she prances around. She is still at an age where she needs to be constantly supervised as anything around the home is considered a chew toy. It is recommended that you have chew toys available for her to ensure her safety, and spare your house and furniture from repairs. You have to be aware of what she is doing all the time as Anna still has a very puppyish temperament; she hasn’t matured yet into the regal and proud Pyrenees she will one day become. Anna can be nervous of the noise and activity of young children. We will be looking for a home for her that has adults only, or teens. Regular visiting young kids are not suitable for Anna either. She is just too unsure of them.
Anna has a great appetite and loves her meals. She runs quickly into her crate as you’re approaching with her bowl. After she eats, she likes to rest for approximately 45 minutes before wanting out for a pee break and playtime. She is food motivated which makes training with treats easy. Anna does well in the car. She will whine a bit but does settle. Continued trips in the car to fun places will make car travel much more enjoyable for her.
Anna is crate trained and runs into her crate on her own waiting for her treat or food. During the day if we are out, she is crated to ensure her safety and keep her from destroying parts of your home while you are away. She settles quickly for a good rest. She is an excellent sleeper at night as long as she gets adequate playtime during the day and before bedtime. Yes, she will need to be crated at night and when you’re not around as she will chew and get into trouble if left unattended.
Anna is extremely loyal, loving and devoted. She is looking for that love and devotion back. We are looking for a home for Anna that is knowledgeable of the Great Pyrenees breed and preference will be given to those experienced with the breed. This is a livestock guardian breed and as such are not suited for everyone. Anna is more social and outgoing than most Pyr’s but we have to respect her breed and make sure her forever family knows what to expect, and how to properly handle, a Pyr. Please ensure that you tell us about your experience with this breed if you choose to apply. Anna is a gem of a dog. If you are a big dog lover, this dog may be the perfect fit.
