Temptation

by Michael
(Cedarville Michigan)

Living as we do in the eastern upper peninsula of Michigan I notice that our eleven month old male is beginning to find hiimself. The wolf population in the area is very prevelant which has us wondering if our pyre could be seduced away by a female wolf in heat. IF in fact this is true I'm sure that our boy's interest would not be well received by the pack.

Well. You know what you need to do for your young fellow. If he were mine, I would not delay. After his neuter, do not let him wander unattended. Do keep him leashed. He'll not be fearful of the wolves. Older, more experienced guardian Pyrs recognise wolves as predators, and will not risk direct contact unless it is necessary to protect. Your young dog may not yet have these skills, so this has the potential for a seriously negative outcome should he come in contact with the wild brothers. So, do be your Pyrs guardian for his sake, and control this situation as best as you can. Good luck with this.

The neuter will help but as a Pyr, he will wander so he needs secure containment of a 6ft fence. Tie ups are not suitable for Pyrs since they need to have access to all corner of their property.
